Scientists have been looking for new therapies for people infected by the coronavirus and emerging variants, especially as breakthrough infections become more common.
A 2022 study conducted at the University of Chicago revealed that CBD directly inhibited viral replication in lung cells. CBD did not affect the ability of the virus to enter the
cell. Instead, it was effective at blocking replication early in the infection cycle and six hours after the virus had already infected the cell. The scientists involved in this particular study wanted to know if CBD would affect the immune system and block viral replication, and surprisingly, that’s exactly what it did!
